Offers subsidized rents to each tenant and his/her family, based on 30% of the gross monthly income, or rental subsidy for individuals who experience a sudden change in life situation necessitating rental assistance. Candidates must be approved by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Also offers a lease-to-buy program that enables low-to-moderate income individuals with mental illness to lease affordable rental housing for up to two years and then qualify for a mortgage to become a homeowner. Also offers affordable and permanent housing for young adults 18-23 years who battle mental illness and have aged out of the foster care system.
Home for the Brave Provides returning veterans with affordable safe and permanent housing, with a priority on veterans with severe and persistent mental illness.

Volunteer service organization provides opportunities for older adults to tutor and mentor children, provide support and companionship to frail elderly and adults with disabilities or mentor veterans. Case managers provide in-home assessments for both clients and volunteers. Also matches volunteers with community agencies.
Senior Companion Program Volunteers provide respite services to caregivers of elderly and disabled adults. Low-income volunteers, 55+ years, are trained to provide friendship and companionship at no cost to elderly individuals who may be at risk for institutional placement. Volunteers visit their clients approximately two times a week and serve up to 15–20 hours per week. Most are entitled to a tax-free hourly stipend if they meet income eligibility guidelines.
RELIEF for Caregivers Volunteers provide in-home respite to relieve caregivers of older adults.
Foster Grandparents Volunteers, 55+ years, participate as role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. A small stipend is available to volunteers who meet low-income eligibility.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Matches volunteers, 55+ years, with local organizations to assist in providing services that rely on the volunteer’s skills and talents.
Veterans Helping Veterans Senior volunteers, 55+ years who are veterans themselves, serve as mentors to returning veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
Legacy Corp Provides caregiver and veteran support services by and for veteran and military families. Volunteers receive a monthly taxable allowance to cover any cost of volunteering.
Caregiver Assistance Program Provides quarterly workshops that give caregivers a much-needed break while receiving education on topics relevant to caregiving.
